Holidays to Burma

Shwedagon Pagoda

Burma (Myanmar), is a land so full of contrasts you could be mistaken that you have stepped back in time as you encounter women wearing traditional make-up (thanakha) and men sporting skirt like longyi.  Yangon (Rangoon) no longer the Burmese capital is home to the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda and still retains its colonial charm and architecture. Rivalling Cambodia’s Angkor Wat Temple Complex are the 4,400 temples dating back more than 800 years which fill the plain of BaganMandalay defying its poetic imagery remains a modern city, but do take the time to visit the Golden Buddha of Mahamuni Paya and cruise the Irrawaddy River, which is sometimes referred to as ‘The Road to Mandalay’ after the Rudyard Kipling’s poem.  Before flying home spend a few days relaxing at Ngapali Beach the premier beach destination, with beautiful palm fringed white sandy beaches washed daily by the azure waters of the Bay of Bengal. The best time to visit this land of Festivals is October through to April.
